Organized once every six years under the auspices of FAO, the World Forestry Congress is the most important forestry event held in the world. The twelfth session was held from 21 to 28 September 2003 in Quebec City, Canada, with the theme "Forests: source of life". More than 4000 people from 137 countries participated. The Main Volume of the XII WFC Proceedings was originally published only on CD-ROM. This Synthesis is published in print by FAO to disseminate the key contents of the Main Volume more widely. It contains the Introduction, the Programme, the Final Statement and the Conclusions and Recommendations of the Congress, as well as the statements given during the opening and closing ceremonies.
